What Parents Need to Know and Shared Responsibilities

There is a lot of documentation and guidance available and freely accessible to parents. We have used the guidance provided to us from the Government and Local Authority when planning our return. Parents can see the Government guidance for parents by clicking here.

In preparation for a wider opening we have undertaken a detailed assessment of risk and are putting in place the following measures:

  • Preparing the site, classrooms and accessibility

  •  Ensuring appropriate numbers of staff on site and in classes

  • Creating plans for staffing and temporary teaching groups (these will be subject to the number of children requiring a place)

  • Ensuring children are kept in small groups (bubbles) – this means they will be with the same children and staff all day, every day, with little or no contact with other children or adults

  • Communicating with staff and providing guidance for them

  • Communicating with parents - sharing this plan and making it clear what we expect of parents and children when they return to school

  • Considering how we best manage pupil, staff and parents’ wellbeing

  • Planning what we teach and how, in rooms with very limited resources

  • Continuing daily home learning

  • Arranging for lunches to be served in classrooms (these will be grab bags provided by the kitchen)

  • Arranging for continuous cleaning of all surfaces and high traffic areas in classrooms and across the school building including toilets

  • Putting age appropriate signage in place around the building

  • Creating a management plan for anyone showing signs of Covid-19

  • Allocating places and groups with families in mind

Measures will be under constant review and are not limited to the above list.

The number of staff required in school as we begin to open to more children in their small groups is going to put pressure on the ongoing home learning. Therefore, our plan is as outlined below and subject to constant review:

Week 4 (22nd June)

Review and consider wider opening for all children as per Government guidance.

As groups need to be much smaller than normal class numbers, for safety and to create the right environment, we cannot:

  • Guarantee your child will be with their own class teacher

  • Guarantee your child will be with children from just their own class

  • Guarantee that your child will be in their own classroom

  • Ask staff and children to wear facial PPE around school or at drop off or pickup as this will create a daunting atmosphere

We need parents to:

  • Request places using the forms we will publish on the website and by the deadlines

  • Answer the questions fully, bearing in mind that it is everyone’s responsibility to avoid putting children and staff at risk of infection

  • Follow the guidance you will receive once a place is offered, which will include what children can bring to school and drop off and pickup arrangements

  • Remember that children are likely to be anxious, be prepared and ready to drop and go. Let the staff do the reassuring please

  • Communicate with the school office by email in the first instance rather than phoning.

We need children to continue to follow our school RESPECT Code:

Thankfulness, Trust, Respect, Truthfulness, Hope, Responsibility

Finally, we all need to remember that no-one has done this before; there are no experts in this.  Now is a time for togetherness, understanding and patience. Things will go wrong but it won’t be for the want of trying to get things right. Nobody wants to bring children back to an environment which is not familiar to them but the only way to bring children back safely is to compromise and make the best of what we have. The one thing I can guarantee is that the staff will do their best to look after and support our children, even if it is from a distance.

 Thank you
